Geonet have as of Sept 1st 2012 implemented a whole new earthquake location system called SeisComP3.
This is based on the Geonet Rapid system that was being tested for the last 6 months.
During the transition from producing the catalogue using the old earthquake location system (CUSP) to the new one using SeisComP3, Quake Search will not return any information for earthquakes occurring after September 1st 2012. There will be no database for earthquakes after Sept 1st issued until January 2013.
This leaves this blog project “databaseless”, the only data available now is in 30 event batches, downloadable by using the KML facility.
I cannot be at the computer 24/7 to capture the KML files every time it exceedes 30 events, so there may be a few events missed in the next few months.
A fellow earthquake event archiver in Ireland is also covering New Zealand as part of a Global earthquake energy release research project and has developed a new computer program that will assist in gathering this data and processing it, and hopefully between us we can stitch together enough data downloads to form a reasonably accurate database for the next 4 months in lieu of the now non existent Geonet one.
The first earthquake event we saved was at 2012-09-05 01:04:57.83, but there are residual events still in the old geonet database up until 2012-09-04 18:48:12.358. I am now trying to retrive the missing data.
The first 4 days of September will be a mix of old and new data, but there will be maps!
